In which the savant son of a minor industrialist improbably prevents the closing of his recently deceased father's Midwestern brakes factory, as threatened through a greedy buyout attempt by a larger Midwestern industrialist whose interest is not with the WORKERS but with profits, the result being hundreds of well-paying manufacturing jobs saved in an American town whose very livelihood depends on the factory's existence.
The savant's tactics include, FIRST: attempting to outcapitalist the capitalists, and although his sales attempts turn out, after tremendous dificulty, humor, and setbacks, to be surprisingly successful, producing enough sales volume to save the factory and divert the buyout offer, he's undermined by even more greedy capitalists--the savant's father's sinister widow--whose putative son (actual lover) disarranges the shipping invoices, causing havoc nationwide and ultimately the cancellation of most of the orders, meaning certain doom for the factory.
SECOND: failing at capitalism, but still determined to save the livelihood of the noble workers that depend on him, the savant engages in terrorism, strapping a simulated bomb to his chest (made of road flares), and demanding a conference with the large Midwestern industrialist; his wish is granted, and once the savant and major industrialist meet face to face, the savant, through charisma, a series of shocking legal revelations, and character blackmail through the use of local live media coverage, manages to secure a deal that saves the factory.
The workers cheer upon his return.
